Library by Appointment

Phase 2: Acton Public Library: Quick Browsing, Children’s Room, and Computer all by Appointments

Subject to change, so please check back often. We formulated these guidelines with the help of the Town of Old Saybrook and our Health district http://www.crahd.org/

Welcome to the next phase at Acton! Thank you for being patient as we had our Plexiglass installed and we have rounded up the proper PPE for our staff and for you. We have been working with the local health department and with the Town to ensure your safety and the safety of our staff! We are so glad so many people have been using our Curbside Pickup Services; picking up Summer Reading incentives, materials, and crafts. We are so happy you are also enjoying our virtual programs; our staff has learned a lot about the online platforms!

Please read before coming into the library. We have chosen the appointment model to ensure people got time in the building but were not hanging around waiting to get in.

Safety Measure:

  • Masks shall be worn at all times. Masks will be required for all people entering the library over the age of 2, per Governor’s executive order and town guidance. If you cannot wear a mask, please call us at 860.395.3184 to schedule a curbside pickup for materials instead
  • We have ample amounts of hand sanitizer to distribute
  • Keyboards will be cleaned in between uses, we also have fitted them with plastic covers
  • Do not enter the library if you have a fever or are exhibiting any signs of illness
  • You will be asked to sign in, but since you have already made an appointment this will really just be a check in
  • We have removed most of our furniture, we do not have any meeting rooms, and donations cannot be accepted
  • There are no newspapers to read on hand because we do not have a method to clean them

Appointments:

  • Time:
    • Monday through Friday
    • 10am, 11am, 12pm and 1pm appointment slots
      • We ask you to be on time if you want a full 45 minutes. Each appointment time will end at quarter of the hour to ensure cleaning time for the next appointments
    • Enter through the rear entrance
    • 45 minutes each, please do not linger past your time, we will clean before the next appointment
  • Children’s Room:
    • One family/household at a time
    • Children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult
    • The toys, soft furniture, and games have been removed for now
    • One internet computer will be made available during your visit in the room
    • The craft table isn’t functioning now, but prepackaged crafts (origami, STEM, or preschool) can be taken home if requested, or ordered through curbside
    • Please stay in the children’s room if that is where your appointment is. We can have a staff member grab items from other parts of the library for you or you can make a separate browsing appointment at another time
  • Computers:
    • Computer appointments are 45 minutes, and cannot be extended
    • Computer appointments are limited to twice a week, at this time
    • Teen and Adult computers are available
    • If you print you will need to let a staff member know because the copier/printer is now located behind the desk and they will need to give you your pages
    • During this time, we are allowing up to ten (10) pages printed for free
  • Browsing:
    • In this phase we ask you to browse with intention and do not linger
      • Appointments are up to 45 minutes, but feel free to grab and go
    • Only one patron per aisle
    • Stay at least six feet away from other patrons
    • When making an appointment, please tell us how many people are coming, each person counts
    • Follow any directional signage
    • Feel free to try our new self-check station located near the circulation desk (remember to bring your library card it requires the 14 digit number on the back!)

Book Drops Open:

  • Both exterior book drops are open. One is located near the front door and one is located near the back door.
  • Please use these book drops when you are done with items, they are available 24/7.
  • We have an interior book drop for those that are browsing and have decided they do not want the item that they have handled.
  • All items coming out of the book drops are quarantined for 96 hours or 4 days and then cleaned with a disinfectant
    • This quarantine time may add time to items coming off of your library record

Item Loaning Between Libraries:

  • Items may be requested through our catalog from other libraries https://os.catalog.lionlibraries.org/
  • All items coming from other libraries will be quarantined for 4 days and then will be made available to you
  • Some libraries have limited staffing, or are not completely open, so not every item in the catalog may be as readily available as before, but undoubtedly it will improve

Curbside Pickup Continues:

  • We still offer curbside pickups (books, movies, audiobooks, printing & copying too)
  • Curbside pickup will now be located in the front foyer to make room for appointments to come in the rear entrance
  • Curbside Information: http://actonlibrary.org/curbside-pickup/
