In Old Saybrook and its neighboring community there are a lot of talented writers, poets, and movie producers and the library would like to highlight this local talent. The Acton Public Library has designated a new shelf area to highlight our local authors. This shelf is right inside our Ann Petry Reading Room, who was an African American native of Old Saybrook who wrote the critically acclaimed novel, ‘The Street’ in 1946.
We chose ‘local’ authors that resided in towns within approximately 30 minutes of Old Saybrook. Authors include; James Benn, Kristan Higgins, Wally Lamb, Eugene O’Neill, Jacques Pepin, and Luanne Rice. Also included in this local collection is our very own Old Saybrook Poet Laureate, Patricia O’Brien with her book, The Laughing Rabbit. We also just included a new film entitled Starfish produced by the local filmmaker, Shira Levin.
All of these items have been cataloged and feature a sticker saying ‘Local Author’.
